Social Services Counselor Nancy Wynne is available on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. She does senior outreach in the field as well, so please call for an appointment if your problem is truly urgent.

PROPERTY TAX/RENT REBATES – It is that time of the year! Please note, when you call and sign up to have your taxes done by AARP and you want your rent or property rebate done, you MUST ALSO REQUEST AN APPOINTMENT FOR ME FOR YOUR REBATES. MY EXTENSION IS 15. MY DAYS AND HOURS ARE: MONDAY, WEDNESDAY AND FRIDAY FROM 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. In past years, folks have their taxes done by AARP volunteers and
just stop by my office without an appointment. As some of you know you have to wait for a long time, especially when I have folks scheduled and my take them first. Please call to make an appointment. Guidelines will be the same this year as last year. You will find further information below. More information will be published in the March newsletter. You may want to look at the chart below to see if you can file for the rebate:
Homeowners:

LIHEAP can help with your heating bills. Beginning January 4, 2010 additional money may be available via Crisis Grants for emergency situations when you are in jeopardy of losing your heat. Call or visit the local PA Public Assistance Office – 24 Robinson Street, Pottstown 19464-5584 (in the industrial area across from Walmart) or call Toll Free 1-800-641-3940. I have the application if you need a copy.
MEDICARE PREMIUM ASSISTANCE ELIGIBILITY Here is some information to help you understand and see if you are eligible for assistance in paying Medicare insurance premiums. • Income limited to $16,245 for an individual or $21,855 for a married couple living together. Even if his annual income is higher, he still may be able to get some help with monthly premiums, annual deductibles and prescription co-payments. Some examples where income may be higher include if he or his wife: ● Support other family members who live with them; or ● Have earnings from work • Resources limited to $12,510 for an individual or $25,010 for a married couple living together. Resources include such things as bank accounts, stocks and bonds. We do not count his house or car as resources.
MEDICARE PART D ONLINE APPLICATION Social Security has an easy-to-use online application for Medicare Part D that you can complete. You can find it and download it at www.socialsecurity.gov/prescriptionhelp. To apply by phone or have an application mailed to you, call Social Security at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) and ask for the Application for Help with Medicare Prescription Drug Plan Costs (SSA-1020). Or go to the nearest Social Security office. To learn more about the Medicare prescription drug plans and special enrollment periods, visit www.medicare.gov or call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227; TTY 1-877-486-2048).
